Prioritize Peace At All Times - NPC Tells Ghanaians

Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC), Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante

Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC), Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, has asked politicians to ensure that Ghana's democracy is free from violence.

He said if politics degenerates into insults and attacks, it will adversely affect the cohesion of the country.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Most Rev. Professor Asante said those who foment trouble must be punished irrespective of their party colour.

He said the Peace Council will not deviate from its core mandate, adding that it will contribute its quota to ensure that the peace of the country is not compromised.

Most Rev. Professor Asante's comments comes after the debate on whether the choice of democracy for the country is a right one or not.

In a comment, a Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Evans Aggrey Darko, said the country focuses too much on on politics and power, thus making the state the sole actor.

This according to him leads to people wanting certainty at all cost. He also called on the electorate to reject politicians who perpetuate violence.
